Welcome!
Beautiful Models of Izmir is a modelling project, created to exhibit certain structures of Izmir, in 3D, on Google Earth. This project aims to support Izmir’s (known as the Pearl of the Aegean Sea) presentation on different mediums. The first phase has been finally completed and now it’s time to announce the project publicly.
Upon the completion of adequate number of models for Google Earth, our application has been approved and an Izmir models collection has been created on Google 3D Warehouse. Next phase of the project involves expanding the number of geographically positioned and photo-textured models in the collection.
In order to prepare a Google Earth ready model, the structure should be modeled using Google SketchUp, covered with photographic textures, optimized for size, and presented with introductory content. After all steps have been completed, the model should be suggested for inclusion in the Google 3D Warehouse Izmir Collection.
As the number of the models in a region increases, the number of visitors increase as well and the region becomes more attractive. To complete the second phase of the project, we aim to reach weekly addition of one new model into the collection.
Thanks Message and Invitation
We have successfully completed the first phase of the project with our team of volunteers. 16 models are created over 7 months and 15 of them are currently presented on Google Earth. As we reached adequate number of models we opened the Izmir Collection on Google 3D Warehouse and collected basic level information regarding the structures.
Great effort has been spent on the quality of our models to reflect Izmir’s beautiful surrounding. We had a number of problems on photographing, especially due to the narrow spaces between structures and weather conditions.
As the rapid expansion of Google Earth continues, we see more and more institutional activities on this platform. Walt Disney created the complete 3D Disney World on Google Earth. The number of cities which has more than 50-60 models in Europe are increasing. A region attracts more people as the number of models in that region increases. That’s why we are looking for both talented amateur and professional modelers to give us a hand. We hope all visitors like our models and help us expanding this project.
I would like to thank all of our talented team members and everyone who supported us. I wish the best for Izmir.
Best Regards,
Onur Gunduru

I’m one of the first graduates of Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH). Since 2004 I’m on my way with my own software company Onur Yazılım. I hate spending time for nothing. I love brainstorming, designing, Blues Brothers, and doing Capoeira. I play tumba, conga and berimbau. However I’m terrible at these :) More about me! |
